The Hyde District Climate Change Forum are once again waving the transition flag at the Frogham Fair on August 27th 2011.

There will a number of interesting things well worth taking a look.

  • Nissan Leaf electric car
  • Electric Motorcycle
  • Giant electric powered cycle
  • A pedal power challenge
  • Solar oven demonstration

and various other energy related information of special interest to ‘locals’

At the last meeting those attending agreed that a Google Group might encourage more lively and frequent communication between people who had expressed an interest in Transition in the Fordingbridge area. The group has been set up and is operating very well. If you think you would like to be in the loop there’s a link over on the left, just fill it in and give some comment to show you are not a robot – we’ll send you an invite.

Green Open Doors

A chance to visit local homes where green systems are being implemented. Meet the owners and see what measures might work for you.

For more information go to the New Forest National Park web site In Fordingbridge you can visit Mark and Valerie to see the many innovations they have added to their house.

Green Open Doors 2011

The Fordingbridge and District Hort Society have Chris Bird from Sparsholt coming along to talk about ‘Growing Vegetables’ on March 28th 2011.

This will take place in St. Mary’s Hall Fordingbridge at 7.30pm – you don’t have to be a member……and it’s free to attended.

If you are interested in a seed swap locally then check out the Hyde web site for info: http://hdccf.blissford.net/2011/03/01/open-meeting-and-agm-on-thursday-march-3rd-at-7-30-pm-at-hyde-war-memorial-parish-hall-at-frogham-cross-roads-near-fordingbridge-sp6-2hu/

On Sunday 27th Feb the Downton Group held their Seedy Sunday event and thanks to their hard work and good planning the hall was bursting at the seams. It was good to see so many local groups attending and generating strong interest.

We decided not to run a VegEvent this Spring. We are building up our energy for something this Autumn, perhaps in combinations with the group at Hyde.

Our next meeting will be on January 11th 2011 at the Tudor Rose 7.30pm.

Everyone welcome, please bring along your ideas for the coming year.

Lucie Cowles is a lady of many talents, Coppicer, Hurdle maker, Woodsman, Conservator, and importantly for the VegEvent an enthusiastic forager.
Lucie is going to start the proceedings at 10.30am.  on Sat 18th with a talk on the subject of Hedgerow Foraging. I’m sure she’ll digress into woodland foraging as well because we are at the peak of the fungus season. What better time to find out about the yummy things that are there for the taking in our countryside……..and even in urban areas too.

A little more info: Lucie was taught at an early age by her mother what to glean for free from the countryside and currently works in many of Dorset’s most remote & beautiful locations on conservation & restoration projects, as well as being involved in Foraging. Lucie endeavours to get people out in to the natural environment and reconnect with the land, to feel the physical and emotional health benefits associated with the great outdoors. She aims to teach people the pleasure of foraging and encourages you to seek out ingredients that are freely available and will enhance the dishes you would cook
